North Carolina Well Represented at Kolar NSSA US Open

Several North Carolina skeet shooters found success at the 2023 Kolar NSSA US Open, including four ladies and a NCSSA Hall of Famer who found podium finishes in the event held at 14 different clubs across the country June 23-25.

Corrie Cloninger reached the podium three times, including a second-place finish in the Ladies HOA. She also placed first in Ladies .410 bore and third in Ladies 28 ga.

Josie Cloninger added her own pair of podium finishes, winning the Ladies 12 ga. event and finishing third in Ladies 20 ga. Josie also shot her first 200x200 during the event.

Addison Wallace took top honors in the Ladies Doubles event and Mary-Beth Parris finished 3rd in Ladies .410.

Stuart Brown finished third in the HOA with a strong 398/400.

A number of North Carolina shooters also placed well within their class and concurrents at the event. Please find all shoot results by clicking here!

The NCSSA would like to congratulate all shooters on a great event, which fielded more than 600 competitors.

John Scott / Henry Grubb Azalea Open Becoming a Must-Shoot!

Fort Bragg Clay Target Center hosted the Azalea Open 14 – 16 April.  Early spring gave us some showers, but the 58 attendees had a fun weekend and posted some great scores.

A big congratulations to Anna Wood, who won HOA with the lone 391.  She is a collegiate shooter from Lexington NC.  Her win was even more special because the late Henry Grubb was her mentor.  In her free-time she would practice at Henry and Cheryl Grubb’s range.  Anna actually hadn’t lifted her gun since the NC State shoot in September 2022—obviously the break didn’t dull her shooting skills.

Among the spectators for the shoot were long-time NC Skeet supporter Cheryl Grubb, who caught up with many of the shooters in attendance.

Gun champs were:

Doubles—Josie Cloninger (99) the lone posted 99

12 Gauge—Chris Brown (100) in a 4-person shoot-off
