Cloninger Takes NC Junior State Championship

(SALISBURY) — Josie Cloninger took advantage of strong shooting under blue bird skies at Rowan County Wildlife Association recently to add her name to the NC Junior State Championship Cup.

2023 NC Junior State Champion Josie Cloninger is flanked by Addison Wallace (3rd Place) and Wesley Driscoll (2nd Place).

Cloninger, who won the Sub-Junior championship in 2021, used a strong 98 round and outlasted event runner-up Wesley Driscoll (98) in a shoot off to take the title. Cloninger’s sister, Corrie, won the event in 2022.

Addison Wallace continued her strong 2023 shooting season with a 97 to take third-place overall.

Nolan Ivie etched his name on the Josh Goodnight Sub-Junior cup by taking first in that age concurrent. Ivie finished his round with a strong 90, edging a pair of 89s from fellow Gaston Young Guns competitor Carter Mitchell as well as Colton Dull. Mitchell finished second after a shoot off with Dull.

REMINDER!!! NC State Closed Skeet Championship Registration Opens 8/7!

A simple reminder to all NCSSA members to get your registrations in for the 2023 NC State Closed Skeet Championships! Postmarks starting Aug. 7 will be accepted for registration. ALL entries must be submitted by mail to NCSSA VP Bill Kluttz.

The event will be held Sept. 8-10 at Fort Liberty Shooting Center.

UPDATE - 8/2/23

A quick update. 
Last week John was moved from the cardiology center at ECU hospital to the rehabilitation center to begin a long journey of physical therapy.  He is making progress and is committed to working hard, following the doctors orders and taking care of himself.   He is located at:

UPDATE - 7/21/23

Dear Friends,

I’ve received many messages and prayers from so many of you. As you may be aware I injured myself seriously on July 4th and am making a slow recovery.   We are waiting today to hear from ECU hospital.  They’ve given me tests to see what I qualify for and we are not sure yet.  Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.

Stuart Brown Takes Top Honor at Paratrooper

NCSSA Hall of Famer Stuart Brown rode four strong gun performances to take HOA honors at the 2023 Paratrooper Open held at Fort Liberty Target Center July 7-9.

Brown connected on 396 of 400 targets in the shoot. Corrie Cloninger shot 394 to finish runner-up and take the high lady honors.

The event was met with usual warm temperatures, with just one afternoon shower putting a short delay on activities Sunday. More than 80 shooters participated in this year’s event. The Paratrooper Open also featured several youth shooters, many earning their top registered scores and a number of them near the top of their event scores.

Paul Stemac, Chip Simmons and James Delosh rounded out the top-five in HOA.

John Parker Update - Prayer Request

Many of you are aware that John Parker recently had an unfortunate accident at his farm.  When starting a tractor, he sustained serious injuries to his left arm and hand, and right foot.

He is still in the hospital and receiving needed care.   

He has a positive attitude and looks forward to seeing everyone at a skeet shoot soon.  Please keep John and his wife Rachel in your prayers.
